The Roma Vine plate carries three curving branches around its wide rim, each one heavy with small round tomatoes in bright red, finished with green star-shaped tops and long olive leaves drawn in fine black outline. The vines leave open space between them, so the design breathes instead of crowding the rim, and the speckled off-white glaze behind them gives the whole plate a warm, farmhouse feel.
The shape is a classic restaurant pasta plate. A wide 9.5 inch rim frames the food, while the deep centre well, 5.3 inches across and 1.6 inches deep, holds pasta, risotto, soup or a generous curry without anything sliding toward the edge. Serve a red sauce in it and the plate finishes the picture for you.
Because every vine, leaf and tomato is painted by hand, small variations between plates are normal. The branches curve a little differently, the tomatoes sit in slightly different places, and the speckle in the glaze is never the same twice. That is what separates this from a printed plate.
